About The Position

The Referral Specialist is responsible for scheduling referrals for patients and providers, as well as pre-authorizing and pre-certifying tests/procedures Scheduling of other tests with facilities at the request of providers and/or staff. Communicate effectively with patients, clinics, and hospitals. Reviews clinical data to report medical necessity to insurance companies. Independence Physician Management (IPM), a subsidiary of UHS, was formed in 2012 as the physician services unit of UHS. IPM develops and manages multi-specialty physician networks and urgent care clinics which align with UHS acute care facilities. Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Job requires being reliable, responsible, dependable, and fulfilling obligations.
  • Job requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Knowledge of electronic equipment, computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Nice To Haves

  • Completed a Medical Office Assistant/Specialist program or Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of medical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules tests and referral appointments within 24 hours from receiving the physician order. Notify patients within 24 hours of their appointment. Pre-certify appropriate tests with insurance companies within 48 hours of physician order. Communicate pre-certification results to the patient and/or office in a timely matter.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, clinics, and hospitals. Communicate information to appropriate areas, departments, and individuals. Addresses patients in a polite, prompt, and helpful manner. Answer the phone within four (4) rings in a courteous manner identifying self and department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills to operate EMR software efficiently and effectively. Uses referral tool in EMR for all documentation. Demonstrates knowledge of computer downtime procedures.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly office and waiting area. Orders supplies for the office within budgetary guidelines. Returns all emails within 48 hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • May require travel to other MPA locations in the Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch, FL area
