Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • 8+ years’ experience preferably in restaurant industry
  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Visio (as applicable)
  • Proficiency in JD Edwards (as applicable)
  • Ability to communicate, influence and negotiate decisions while motivating assigned staff
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Must be able to report to work timely and as required by operational/business needs
  • Must be able to work a full-time schedule and work outside of normal business hours when necessary
  • Must be able to travel occasionally both locally and long distances (including air travel), to worksites, meeting sites, and other locations
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, submit to releasing a Motor Vehicle Record that adheres to the Whataburger standards and maintain current automobile liability at minimum levels in their state of residence
  • Expected to work the necessary time to satisfactorily fulfill job responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Conducts HR investigations for all Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Department of Labor, unfair treatment, sexual harassment, and discrimination claims.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurately processing of all unemployment and EEOC claims and keeps operations abreast of status.
  • Works with Field Director on final submissions for all EEOC claims.
  • Ensures promotion, exception, and P4P increases are within wage plan guidelines and all required training and employment qualifications are met before approving Personnel Action Notices (PAN’s) for promotions and salary changes.
  • Interprets company policies and procedures appropriately and communicates company procedures, policies, and benefits effectively to family members and applicants.
  • Updates HR Activity Log.
  • Performs research, consults others, evaluates alternatives and makes timely decisions.
  • Provides recommendations on employee relations issues and performance management issues.
  • Assists with Family Member (employee) intake meetings for hardship requests and submits requests to Whataburger Family Foundation for donation relief opportunities.
  • Conducts HR Unit Evaluations at restaurants in the Satellite Markets.
  • Oversees verification of and approves employment of re-hires.
  • Monitors Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leaves to ensure compliance; reviews eligibility requirements and works with Corporate HR on administration of FMLA.
  • Follows proper approval process when purchasing materials, and tracks invoices accordingly.
  • Collaborates with Recruiting Managers with recruiting efforts.
  • Contributes to trainee and management turnover reporting; takes steps to influence retention.
  • Participates in Zone and/or Area QBR and/other Support meetings.
  • Updates and reviews Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) Tracker.
  • Assists with providing information on Unemployment Claims, as needed.
  • Runs Review Date and Inactive Reports; provides information to Field and follow-up, as needed.
  • Follows-up on expired I9 supporting documentation and/or I9 or ID issues noted during HR Unit Evaluations.
  • Develops and communicates HR Focus Points and/or provides communication on Human Resources ‘Hot Topics’.
  • Assists with on-boarding and/or acclimating support staff (i.e. new Area Managers).
  • Monitors company operations for compliance in basic EEOC regulations.
  • Educates management as to responsibilities in maintaining an environment free of discrimination.
  • Effectively supports Whataburger family members and the company to ensure fairness in our employment practices.
  • Available to assist with Recruitment, as needed.
  • Actively seeks further education to broaden expertise in Human Resources and field operations.
  • Volunteers for projects as needed, i.e., incentive programs.
