About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) Circulator is a professional perioperative nurse responsible for coordinating, delivering, and documenting comprehensive patient care throughout the intraoperative phase of the surgical experience. The RN Circulator functions as the patient advocate in the operating room, ensuring a safe, efficient, and compliant surgical environment. This role requires advanced clinical judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to anticipate surgical team needs while maintaining strict adherence to regulatory, accreditation, and hospital standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Maintain active nursing licensure in the state of Washington.
  • Active BLS (basic life support) certification.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform the required technical skills for Register Nurse.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform the required technical skills for specific departments.
  • Demonstrates the ability to learn, apply, and individualize new patient care skills and uses new equipment safely.
  • Initiates and participates in activities.

  • Prior perioperative nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive preoperative assessments and verifies patient identity using approved identifiers.
  • Confirms surgical consent, procedure, site marking, allergies, implants, required diagnostics, and blood availability as indicated.
  • Ensures compliance with surgical safety checklist and leads/actively participates in the surgical time-out process.
  • Coordinates and directs workflow in the operating room to promote efficiency and patient safety.
  • Anticipates surgeon and procedural needs, ensuring required supplies, implants, instruments, and equipment are available and functioning.
  • Maintains a safe, sterile environment in collaboration with the scrub role.
  • Completes accurate, real-time electronic documentation of all intraoperative care, medications, implants, counts, positioning, and patient responses.
  • Ensures documentation meets regulatory, accreditation, and legal standards.
  • Ensures appropriate room setup based on procedure type and patient-specific considerations.
