About The Position

The Critical Care Float RN is responsible for collaborating, planning, directing, and implementing patient care for all ages in the ICU and Emergency Department. The Critical Care Float RN develops and guides patient education and evaluates the process using standards of care.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes patient's independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching patient friends and family to understand condition, medications and self-care skills; answering questions.
  • Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing departments philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice acts and other governing agency regulations
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations; calling for assistance from health care support personnel.
  • Maintains department specific certifications per policy.
  • Maintains state Licensure.
  • Required documentation specific to Registered Nurse includes the RN ADMISSION ASSESSMENT, completed within 24hrs of a all patient admissions to an inpatient unit (ICU, TELEMETRY WEST, TELEMETRY EAST/OBSERVATION, SURGICAL 4W, ACUTE REHAB UNIT)
  • Registered Nurses are required to administer specific IV medications per policy.
  • Registered Nurses are required to "check off" blood and blood products and initiate transfusions per policy, then able to delegate to an LVN.
  • Proactive about communicating with Shift Manager as needed regarding patient assignments.
  • Promotes a positive work environment that enhances professional respect, growth, creativity and active participation in achieving of the mission and vision of the organization.
  • Ensures that physician orders are followed. Ensures communication to the physician of the patient's progress, changes in condition, needs and preferences.
  • Ensures documentation of the nursing process in the medical record: patient assessments, plan of care nursing intervention, evaluation of patient response and revision of the plan of care as the needs of the patient change. These plans should be mutually set with patients and family.
  • Fosters professional collaboration and participation of staff in decisions affecting patient care and practice environment.
  • Ensures that nursing personnel administer medications with safety awareness (5 rights).
  • Promptly reports events to the Shift Manager regarding med errors, falls, concerns, etc.
  • Completes monthly and daily QI tasks.
