Job Summary Provides direct patient care to critically ill adult patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Requirements

  • Applicants should have a current state RN license or a current multistate compact license and possess an associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing school.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification (or) obtained within 30 days after hire date.
  • Current American Heart Association ACLS certification or obtain within one year of hire date
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year of hire
  • Handle with Care to be received within 30 days of orientation and kept annually.
  • Successfully pass an arrhythmia exam within 90 days after hire date.
  • NIHSS Certification obtained withing 90 days after hire date.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

Responsibilities

  • Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • Floats to other departments as needed to maintain safe nurse-to-patient ratios.
  • Able to manage ventilators, cpap/bipap, vapotherms.
  • Able to titrate and maintain critical drips on the ICU patient, including knowledge of indications, contraindications, and side effects.
