About The Position

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) seeks compassionate, enthusiastic and dedicated nursing professionals to apply for our REGISTERED NURSE II position at the Wrentham Developmental Center in Wrentham, MA. The RN II candidates will provide nursing care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities that are residing at the Wrentham Developmental Center. In consultation with other health care professionals, the RN II will assess outcomes of care provided and use the nursing process to make continuing assessments of individuals’ total health care needs. Duties and Responsibilities: (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive) Provide exceptional nursing care and oversight by assessing health care needs to ensure the prevention of illness and the promotion of health maintenance. Dispense medications and perform treatments in compliance with medical provider orders, policies and procedures. Collect health and status data for individuals. Ensure information is documented, communicated, and made readily accessible. Identify acute problems and initiate intervention or referrals for needed medical services, confirming that follow-up care is pursued. Support nursing leadership and training for staff; serve as an advocate to ensure individuals receive appropriate health care treatment, health education, and other health related services. Serve as a first responder for behavioral or medical crisis situations. Maintain individual records and files; Performs data entry of medical information.

Requirements

  • Must possess a current and active Massachusetts Registered Nursing (RN) license to practice as an RN in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
  • Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
  • Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
  • Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

  • Knowledge of the techniques used in the handling and transportation of patients.
  • Knowledge of first aid techniques.
  • Knowledge of the sanitation and sterilization methods, techniques and procedures followed in a medical facility.
  • Knowledge of the types and application of emergency medical procedures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely, express thought clearly and develop ideas in logical sequence.
  • Ability to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and in group situations.
  • Ability to understand, apply and explain the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards and guidelines governing agency operations.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records utilizing the electronic medical record keeping system. Skill and proficiency within the system should continue to develop and evolve.
  • Ability to maintain a calm manner in stressful and emergency situations.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to assemble items of information in accordance with established procedures.
  • Ability to give written and oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner.
