The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice and coordination of care with other health team members. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at McKay-Dee Hospital is a 32-bed level III unit in Ogden, Utah. Nursing staff work with an interdisciplinary team to provide care that ranges from routine observation of growing infants to the management of critically ill infants equal to or greater than 22 weeks gestational age. Skills include, lactation support, developmentally appropriate care, CPAP, conventional and high frequency ventilators, chest tubes, central lines, iv therapy, delivery attendance with neonatal resuscitation. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:1 for critical patients, 1:2 for intermediate care and 1:3 for convalescent care and may be adjusted per clinical judgement to provide excellent care to all our patients. May also float or help in Peds as the manager is over both units.
