Role Summary: The Perioperative Registered Nurse (Circulating Nurse) plays a critical role in managing patient care throughout the intraoperative experience. Working outside the sterile field, the RN circulator ensures a safe, efficient, and supportive surgical environment while serving as the patient’s advocate and coordinating the efforts of the surgical team.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Current RN license in Illinois
  • Minimum 1 year OR experience within the past 3–5 years
  • BLS certification required; ACLS within 6 months of hire
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and team skills

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient needs preoperatively and intraoperatively
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans
  • Coordinate and communicate with the surgical team to maintain a safe, efficient OR environment
  • Monitor patient positioning, safety, and equipment use
  • Ensure accurate documentation and reporting
  • Support quality improvement and compliance initiatives
  • Uphold patient confidentiality and safety protocols
  • Collaborate across departments to optimize outcomes
