About The Position

Assist with diagnostic and/or interventional procedures or treatments. May be required to provide 24-hour coverage for emergency procedures as dictated by the on-call schedule. Demonstrates a working knowledge of all equipment used and documents all pertinent patient data accordingly. Demonstrates friendliness, helpfulness, and concern with patients and visitors. Provides assistance to physicians in a helpful and timely manner. Maintains a cooperative relationship with co-workers and other hospital employees according to the values of St. Joseph Medical Center.

Requirements

Licensed as a Registered Nurse accepted by Texas State Board of Nursing to engage in professional nursing.
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.
Other certification requirements as defined by the certification policy,
Two years of Operating Room experience.
B.S., Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing.
Technical, clerical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills relevant to patient care/area.
Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

BSN or progression to this degree.
National Certification as recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Bi or Multilingual.

Uses nursing process to provide all levels of patient care.
Uses professional judgment and critical thinking to prepare, prioritize, and execute the patient's plan of care consistent with patient assessment data, physicians' treatment plans, and professional standards of care.
Implements measures to prevent exposure to infectious pathogens and communicable conditions.
Prepares sterile products to be introduced to the sterile field, utilizing sterile technique.
Demonstrates knowledge of supplies needed for specific procedures performed.
Performs surgical scrub and assists during the procedure.
Responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of physiologic parameters and patient safety.
Performs hand hygiene to prevent transmission of microbes in support of patient safety.
Provides call coverage for emergency procedures after scheduled cases and during the weekend on a rotating basis, using self-scheduling, as needed.
Responds to emergency calls as prescribed by guidelines and or policies.
Able to perform nursing function as deemed competent during an emergency procedure.
Prepares patient for procedures by collaborating within an interdisciplinary team to provide physical and emotional support during safe patient care.
Documents all pertinent patient data and communicates with nursing personnel from various floors to report changes in patients' condition and procedures performed.
Has a thorough knowledge of all accessory equipment utilized during procedure.

Enhances the patient experience by fostering a positive relationship with customers.
Contributes to improving HCAHPS results.
Promotes stewardship of hospital resources while ensuring quality patient care.
