About The Position

The Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the delivery of optimum quality care to patients while in Pre-Op, PACU, Phase ll and procedure room of the Surgery Center. Twin Cities Orthopedics is an operating division of Infinite Health Collaborative (i-Health), a group of local medical practices, owned and led by its physicians, on a mission to give patients more control over their healthcare. Essential Functions: Assesses holistic needs of the patient from pre-op phone call through the patient discharge and provides written documentation and communicates findings to appropriate person. Responsible for reviewing pre-admission screening and H&P (History and Physical) for admission within the guidelines of medical selection criteria. Assesses patient needs, supplies and equipment required for admission and recovery Responsible for completing post-operative phone calls and providing patient triage as appropriate. Provides support, comfort, education and status updates to patient and/or family members Develops and provides individualized care based on nursing assessment in accordance with the pre and post operative plan of care. Reassess and revise as needed. Labels and administers medications as ordered and applies principles of aseptic technique, standard and transmission precautions. Ability to appropriately respond to emergency situations. Monitors patients utilizing sound nursing judgment and maintain competent knowledge of equipment based on policies and procedures from patient admission to discharge. Assists with procedures (i.e. pain management, blocks, conscience sedation.) Follows proper channel of communication and informs department managers of unit activity, patient condition and concerns. Complete, accurate, legible and timely documentation of all patient care as indicated per policy. Collaborates with other disciplines and departments to maximize patient outcomes and ensure a smooth flow of the perioperative experience. Functions within the limits of the MN Nurse Practice Act, State and Federal Laws, the ASC, Pre-op/PACU Department policies and procedures and standards of care. Accountable for reporting occurrences through the center’s established reporting process related to employee and/or patient/visitor events. Fosters the developmental and educational process of self, colleagues, orientees and students (includes functioning as a preceptor). Participates in acceptable continuing education, fostering career and skill development including meeting departmental continuing education requirements. Assists in managing controllable costs by the proper, non-wasteful use of surgery center resources. Any and all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an NLN accredited school of nursing.
  • Current licensure as a RN in the State of MN or WI multi-state required.
  • Current BLS/ACLS/PALS certification required or completed upon hire.
  • Ability to: Comply with company policies, procedures, practices and business ethics guidelines.
  • Complete job required training.
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, (e.g. HIPAA, Stark, OSHA, employment laws, etc.)
  • Demonstrate prompt and reliable attendance
  • Work in the clinic, office or surgery center during business hours
  • Travel independently throughout the clinic, office or surgery center (which may include movement from floor to floor); frequent bending, lifting, standing, stooping or sitting for long periods of time may be required
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds with occasional lifting and moving of a maximum of 50 pounds may be required
  • Work at an efficient and productive pace, handle interruptions appropriately and meet deadlines
  • Communicate and interact in a respectful and professional manner
  • Prioritize workload while being flexible to meet the expectations of the daily operations
  • Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Understand and execute a variety of instructions
  • Effectively operate equipment and communicate on and operate the phone system
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Travel to other work locations, if required

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • A combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
  • One year of nursing experience in PACU or other critical care nursing experience in the last 5 years preferred.
  • Current member American Society of Post Anesthesia Nurses preferred.
