About The Position

The MUSC Orangeburg PACU is a 9-bay post anesthesia care unit designed to care for a variety of post-surgical patients, including Orthopedics, General, Urology, Vascular, ENT, Pediatric, OBGYN, and Podiatry cases. Inpatient and outpatient surgeries are cared for in our PACU, along with inpatient holding. We work together with the anesthesia team and the surgical team to provide the best possible care for our patients. This position does require call hours based on department need. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from accredited school of nursing. Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. Current RN license in South Carolina or compact state is required. BLS is required. PALS and ACLS certification are required within 6 months of hire. Experience in critical care is preferred. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize responsibilities to most effectively meet patient care needs. Recognizes emergency situations and initiates appropriate action. Requirements

  • Graduation from accredited school of nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Provides post operative care for patients receiving general anesthesia and moderate sedation and assists the recovery room team as needed in any other capacity according to established processes.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize responsibilities to most effectively meet patient care needs.
  • Recognizes emergency situations and initiates appropriate action.
  • Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to the appropriate personnel.
  • Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to assure optimal patient care.
  • Assists physicians with examinations, procedures related to direct patient care.
  • Has knowledge of all equipment, procedures and can instruct and precept personnel.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to patients comfort and privacy and maintains a safe, therapeutic and comfortable environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Orients, trains and instructs assigned personnel.
  • Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives and maintain good employee objectives.
  • Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording of patient medical records maintaining all required reports, records and statistics.
  • Performs other miscellaneous and related duties as assigned.
  • Have knowledge of ADRN standards and practices.
