About The Position

The Cardiac Catheterization Lab Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures. This role involves close collaboration with cardiologists and the clinical care team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care before, during, and after cardiac catheterization procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Prior Cath Lab nursing experience required
  • Strong knowledge of cardiac catheterization procedures and cardiovascular patient care
  • Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and hemodynamic monitoring data
  • Strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making abilities
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to perform effectively in fast-paced, high-acuity clinical environments

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred or required
  • Experience assisting with cardiac catheterization and interventional cardiology procedures preferred

Responsibilities

  • Pre-Procedure Patient Care
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments prior to cardiac catheterization procedures
  • Review patient medical history, laboratory results, and diagnostic imaging
  • Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process and addressing questions
  • Establish and verify IV access and ensure monitoring equipment is properly set up
  • Intra-Procedure Support
  • Assist physicians during cardiac catheterization and interventional cardiology procedures
  • Continuously monitor patient vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and hemodynamic status
  • Administer medications, sedation, and contrast agents as ordered
  • Maintain strict sterile technique and adhere to infection control protocols
  • Post-Procedure Patient Care
  • Monitor patients for complications following catheterization procedures
  • Assess vascular access sites and manage post-procedure recovery care
  • Educate patients and families on recovery expectations and post-procedure instructions
  • Document patient assessments, interventions, and procedure outcomes accurately in medical records
  • Equipment & Procedure Support
  • Prepare and maintain cath lab equipment and procedure supplies
  • Assist with the operation of hemodynamic monitoring systems
  • Ensure proper handling, cleaning, and disposal of medical equipment and supplies
  • Team Collaboration & Compliance
  • Work collaboratively with cardiologists, technologists, and nursing staff to coordinate patient care
  • Follow established clinical protocols, regulatory guidelines, and patient safety standards
  • Participate in departmental training, meetings, and quality improvement initiatives
