About The Position

The Infusion Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients receiving intravenous and injectable therapies, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologic agents, blood products, and other medications. This nurse monitors patients for reactions, ensures safe medication administration, and provides education and support throughout the treatment process.

Requirements

  • Active WI Registered Nurse (RN) license. RNs with an active Compact Licensure are to obtain a Wisconsin RN license within 90 days of start date.
  • Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN preferred)
  • BLS certification required or obtained within 1 month of hire.
  • ACLS required or obtained within 1 year of hire.
  • Current ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Provider Card or obtained within 6 months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Oncology or infusion nursing experience
  • Current Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI)
  • Experience with infusion pumps and central venous access devices
  • Knowledge of chemotherapy protocols and oncology patient care

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient condition before, during, and after treatments
  • Review medical history, laboratory results, and treatment orders
  • Monitor vital signs and patient response during treatment
  • Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other IV and injectable medications
  • Access and manage vascular devices including ports, PICC lines, and central lines
  • Follow strict protocols for safe handling of hazardous drugs
  • Ensure accurate dosage calculations and infusion rates
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions or complications such as allergic reactions or extravasation
  • Provide emergency intervention when needed
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, potential side effects, and symptom management
  • Provide guidance on infection prevention and self-care during treatment
  • Support patients emotionally throughout the therapy process
  • Collaborate with providers, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals
  • Communicate patient concerns or changes in condition to providers
  • Document treatment administration, patient responses, and side effects in electronic medical records
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and clinic policies
  • Perform other duties as requested.
