About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical / Telemetry is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with cardiac and telemetry monitoring needs. The RN assesses patient conditions, administers treatments, and monitors cardiac rhythms while collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams. This role requires strong clinical skills, the ability to respond to rapidly changing patient conditions, and proficiency in cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New York.
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical / Telemetry nursing experience .
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Competency in phlebotomy and IV placement .
  • Ability to interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias.
  • Experience with oxygen therapy and non-invasive airway management.
  • Strong clinical assessment, communication, and patient care skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a cardiac telemetry unit.
  • Familiarity with Epic electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Experience responding to rapid response or emergency situations in acute care settings

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to medical-surgical and telemetry patients in a cardiac-focused unit.
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and telemetry readings, identifying and responding to dysrhythmias.
  • Perform phlebotomy and initiate peripheral IV lines as required.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapies according to physician orders and facility protocols.
  • Monitor patient vital signs, oxygen levels, and cardiac status to identify changes in condition.
  • Utilize rapid response teams and emergency protocols when patient conditions deteriorate.
  • Provide care related to oxygen therapy, including nasal cannula, oxygen masks, and portable oxygen tanks.
  • Perform peripheral line care and management to ensure safe and effective IV therapy.
  • Maintain infection control practices and follow isolation precautions when required.
  • Collaborate with physicians, patient care technicians (PCTs), and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
  • Document patient assessments, treatments, and progress in the electronic health record system.
  • Assist with patient education regarding medications, treatments, and discharge planning.
