About The Position

The Surgery unit at Jackson Purchase Medical Center embodies a culture of teamwork and effective communication, essential for providing specialized care to critically ill patients. This is a 5-bed unit that ensures patients receive optimal medical attention and support. The RN – Surgery provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. Performs circulation and/or scrub nurse duties in operating room; assists surgeons in a variety of surgical procedures. Performs duties as assigned and requested. Completes a focused patient assessment with reassessments based on patients’ condition, procedures, medications given and treatments. Adequately assesses and reassesses pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Performs patient care and communicates effectively with patients of all ages and specific needs. Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and the patient’s clinical condition. Follows the 6 rights of medication administration to reduce the potential for medication errors. Assists physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of errors. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 1 year experience preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire
  • Registered Nurse licensed to work in the State of Kentucky.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
