About The Position

The Rehabilitation Counselor position provides vocational rehabilitation services by developing and implementing comprehensive service plans for individuals with one or more disabilities, based on diagnostic evaluation and functional assessment. The role independently administers a full range of case services, including eligibility determinations, plan development, budget monitoring, counseling, and case closure activities. The Rehabilitation Counselor manages a diverse caseload spanning disability categories such as mental health, intellectual or cognitive disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, substance use, and transition-age youth. Work includes coordinating referrals, delivering guidance and support to clients, and collaborating with professionals, families, and service providers to achieve competitive employment or improved independent living outcomes. The position may also oversee or guide support staff involved in case management and client service delivery. This position is located in Mount Airy, Surry County, which is the satellite office of the Winston Salem unit office.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from an appropriately accredited institution; or a master’s degree in a related human services field from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • OR A current certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission of Rehabilitation Counselor Certification.

  • Demonstrated capability in coordinating service delivery across multidisciplinary providers, ensuring consistent communication with clients, family members, and specialty professionals involved in the rehabilitation process.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct diagnostic and functional assessments to determine client eligibility and rehabilitation needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized written rehabilitation or independent living plans in collaboration with clients.
  • Manage a diverse caseload by coordinating services across disability categories, monitoring progress, and adjusting plans as needed.
  • Encumber and monitor case service funds to ensure effective use of resources and adherence to budget requirements.
  • Provide supportive and vocational counseling to guide clients toward employment or increased independent functioning.
  • Deliver information and referral services to connect clients with community resources, specialty providers, or adaptive supports.
  • Coordinate or oversee activities of paraprofessional or support staff engaged in case monitoring, job development, and job placement tasks.
  • Conduct job development and employer outreach to promote vocational rehabilitation services and support competitive employment outcomes.
  • Provide direct instruction when needed to support clients in building skills for employment or independent living.
  • Mentor new counselors, practicum students, or interns when assigned, offering guidance on casework methodology and service delivery.
