About The Position

The Release Train Engineer (RTE) will act as a servant leader and coach for an Agile Release Train (ART) focused on delivering high-value solutions to our Federal Government client. This role is crucial for ensuring the ART operates effectively under the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) principles, specifically tailored to the unique regulatory, security, and contracting environments of government work. The RTE will manage and optimize the flow of value through the ART using various mechanisms, ensuring alignment between strategic goals and execution.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related)
  • If applicable: If you are or have been recently employed by the U.S. government, a post-employment ethics letter will be required if employment with VSolvit is offered
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in an Agile role (Scrum Master, Product Owner, Program Manager)
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience as a certified Release Train Engineer (RTE) leading an ART
  • Mandatory: Proven experience working on or leading technology delivery programs for the Federal Government or Department of Defense (DoD)
  • Tooling Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in configuring and managing Agile tooling, specifically Jira (including advanced reporting/dashboards) and Confluence (for documentation and knowledge management)
  • SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification is required
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and DevOps practices in a government environment
  • Security Clearance: Active or current Secret security clearance required

Nice To Haves

  • Additional SAFe certifications (e.g., SPC, SA) are a plus

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate PI Planning: Drive the preparation, execution, and post-PI Planning follow-up, ensuring alignment across all Agile Teams, stakeholders, and the government client
  • Manage Program Flow: Work with Product Management, System Architects, and government stakeholders to ensure the continuous flow of value, managing dependencies, risks, and impediments across the ART
  • Lead SAFe Events: Host and facilitate all major ART events, including the Scrum of Scrums, Product Management Syncs, Inspect & Adapt (I&A) workshops, and System Demos
  • Metrics and Reporting: Collect, analyze, and report on key ART metrics (e.g., predictability, velocity, flow, lead time) to government stakeholders and internal leadership
  • Security and Compliance: Ensure all development and delivery processes comply with Federal Government regulations, including but not limited to FISMA, FedRAMP, NIST standards (e.g., NIST SP 800-53), and agency-specific security mandates
  • Contractual Alignment: Serve as a key interface to ensure the ART’s technical execution aligns with contract scope, deliverables, and performance requirements (SLAs)
  • Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify and manage program risks and impediments that could impact mission-critical deadlines
  • Agile and SAFe Coaching: Coach Agile Teams, Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and stakeholders in SAFe principles and practices, helping them continuously improve
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead the ART in the relentless pursuit of improvement via the Inspect & Adapt workshop, driving actionable improvements to the value stream
  • Tooling/Reporting: Support the adoption and optimization of government-approved Agile tooling (e.g., Jira Government Cloud, Azure DevOps) for transparency and reporting
