Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Reliability and Maintenance Engineer to join our Ashland Specialty Ingredients G.P. business at our Calvert City, KY location. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the manufacturing function. This position will report to the Area Managers. The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following: Serve as an integral part of Calvert City’s Asset Integrity and Reliability Team while supporting plant operations, reliability improvements & projects across the facility. Interact with other technical groups on site (Process Engineering, Operations, Maintenance), and vendors/suppliers as needed to resolve problems and improve plant reliability and performance. Establish and maintain reliability programs to prevent equipment failures and reduce maintenance/operation costs. Support the site’s PRV / VR shop to ensure compliance and success. Determine equipment health by analyzing vibration/oil analysis / infrared data and develop/implement plans to address exceptions and extend equipment life. Analyze data and review operational history to optimize ITPM activities. Track and analyze downtime metrics / bad actors lists to focus on continued improvement activities. Support compliance with ITPM activities regarding regulatory, Ashland Corporate, and site requirements. Implement identified reliability projects to improve Plant uptime and decrease operating costs. This includes serving as a Project Manager / Engineer. Work with the Plant Mechanical Integrity Engineer to address inspection concerns and findings. Ensure spare parts availability for identified critical equipment. Conduct and assist with Root Cause Analysis. Review and approve new rotating equipment for the Plant to ensure it meets standardization requirements and the overall reliability effort. This includes working closely with Corporate and local Project Engineering. Review all equipment changes to the Plant and their impact on existing PM / PdM programs, spare parts, job plans, and update records/activities accordingly. Complete assigned PHA / Incident / Substandard Condition action items. Continuously update the Plant CMMS system data to ensure accuracy and improve efficiency. Create and submit monthly reports to communicate activity and reliability metrics. Support Plant’s laser alignment and lubrication programs. Assist with daily activities to keep the Plant running, including the following: Assist with equipment breakdowns and repairs to return equipment to operation as quickly as possible and ensure quality repairs (correct materials, repair methods, torque specs, etc). Assist Maintenance Crafts with technical questions and concerns. Work with in-house Machinist on CNC parts manufacturing to achieve cost savings and improve quality/reliability (AutoCAD drawings, part tolerances, material specs, etc.). Work with assigned Production Areas to troubleshoot and resolve process problems (Field troubleshooting, PipeFlo modeling, etc). Manage sudden equipment/process changes through the MOC process. Work with the Area Planner / Coordinator to efficiently complete scheduled & emergency work. Serve as a communication link between Maintenance and Production areas during critical R&M work. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the department functions efficiently and effectively in a safe manner.

Requirements

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3-7 years of experience in a chemical process or other industrial environment, with 3+ of those years in equipment maintenance and reliability.
  • Solid communication skills, able to present logical, clear, effective information and respond to questions in oral and written form, ranging from site management to employees and customers.
  • Ability to apply rational and logical, data-based problem-solving processes, project management skills, and statistical improvement methods.
  • Basic understanding of industry codes and standards.
  • Training in formal Root Cause Analysis.
  • Prior rotating equipment experience.
  • Able to respond appropriately during site emergencies as directed by the Site Emergency Manager.
  • Capable of evacuating the manufacturing process areas in a timely manner should an emergency arise.
  • Must be able and willing to work extended hours in a 24-hour/7-day-a-year chemical plant operation.
  • Able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment if required to work or visit within the manufacturing process area, including hard hat, safety glasses, FRC clothing, respirators, earplugs, steel-toed shoes, or other equipment as required by the work performed and the location where the work is being performed.
  • Able to perform physical activities including walking, climbing stairs/ladders, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting 25 lbs., or reaching, depending on the work activity required.
  • Work performed in an office/plant environment with frequent trips to the operating areas to assess equipment, make inspections, and collect data.
  • Training required to perform the job properly may require this position to travel within the US.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license to operate plant vehicles.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US.
