About The Position

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is actively seeking an On-Call Remote Sensing Technician based in the western U.S. (California, Oregon, Washington) with 0-5 years' experience to support client-driven environmental consulting projects through the application of remote sensing, geospatial analysis, and field-based data collection techniques. Preference given to candidates with 2+ years of experience . This is a remote opportunity. Preference given to candidates in PST time zone and who are open and willing to travel for site visits, projects, and in-person team collaboration as needed. This is a project-based hire with ongoing opportunities , s upporting externally facing client work. The opportunity for continued employment with ESA beyond initial project needs will be discussed and revisited at or near project milestones. You are an environmental or geospatial professional with hands-on experience applying remote sensing and spatial data to real-world environmental challenges. You are comfortable working across multidisciplinary teams and contributing to fast-paced consulting projects that involve both office-based analysis and fieldwork. You bring 0 –5 years of experience in a relevant academic and/or professional scientific or environmental consulting environment. You hold a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of relevant, college-level coursework and applied experience in computer science, geography, natural resources, or a related field. You are organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple tasks while working with staff at all levels. You communicate clearly, follow established protocols, and are comfortable representing ESA in externally facing project environments. As an on-call Remote Sensing Technician, you will contribute to a variety of environmental projects across the western U.S. ESA’s Technology Services practice brings together geospatial science, remote sensing, application development, and environmental expertise to support data-informed decision-making. Our team works closely with environmental scientists and planners to develop practical, science-based solutions that support planning, monitoring, restoration, and resource management. Requirements

  • 0 –5 years of experience in a relevant academic and/or professional scientific or environmental consulting environment
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of relevant, college-level coursework and applied experience in computer science, geography, natural resources, or a related field
  • Ability to work effectively with all staff levels in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing project needs
  • Ability to pass federal and state background checks for project-based assignments

Responsibilities

  • Supporting environmental monitoring and assessment projects using remote sensing, geospatial data, and field-collected information
  • Assisting with processing, interpreting, and integrating remotely sensed data (e.g., aerial imagery, satellite data, LiDAR-derived products) into project workflows
  • Supporting field data collection efforts, including the safe operation of sampling equipment, GPS units, tablets/smartphones, and job-specific field tools
  • Collaborating with ESA scientists, planners, GIS analysts, and technologists to support client deliverables and reporting
  • Participating in data quality control, documentation, and project coordination activities
  • Supporting client engagement and project execution in an externally facing consulting role
  • Other ad hoc tasks as needed
