About The Position

The Repair Development Center (RDC) Technician for GE Vernova Wind Energy, supports the RDC Operations leader, the repair technology team, and satellite wind services teams. This role will primarily operate in the RDC shop in Schenectady, NY, focusing on the essential functions and responsibilities listed below.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED (technical training or certifications are preferred)
  • Minimum 6 years of Field Services, or hands on experience (mechanical technician, fabricator, mechanic, aircraft technicians, etc.).
  • Eligibility Requirements
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally 10% of the time as required.
  • Ability and willingness to climb wind turbines and work at heights.
  • Ability and willingness to support physical necessity of shop-work (i.e., handling rigging, visual inspection, etc.)
  • Ability and willingness to operate heavy equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Civil or equivalent) or other technical discipline from an accredited university or college
  • Mechanical knowledge, electrical aptitude and ability to read schematics
  • Wind turbine knowledge
  • Familiarity with and ability to operate basic hand and power tools.
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping equipment – 3D printers, Laser Cutters, wood routers, etc.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing equipment – mills, lathes, welders, plasma cutters, CNC machines, etc.
  • Familiarity with how to program and maintain manufacturing equipment.
  • Electrical, mechanical, and/or hydraulic power tool experience & knowledge.
  • Familiarity with and ability to identify and setup rigging for lifting operations up to 200t.
  • Familiarity with and ability to operate multiple crane types up to 200t.
  • Familiarity with basic Engineering principles
  • Desire to experiment and prototype new solutions
  • Demonstrated technical problem-solving skills with simple, creative solutions
  • Ability and willingness to take initiative, and work without direct supervision.
  • Ability and willingness to read, interpret technical drawing, manuals, procedures, and regulations.
  • PC proficiency (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access)
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven record of being team oriented and results driven.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with a wide variety of organizations and individuals in global locations.

Responsibilities

  • Work with RDC Operations leader to sustain a world class level of operation & shop functionality
  • Work with engineers to fabricate prototypes
  • Perform wind equipment setup for testing and training
  • Perform continual facility Improvements
  • Maintain facility inventory
  • Maintain facility organization/cleanliness
  • Assist in shipping and receiving
  • Assist in facility tours
  • Assist in hands on training
