LLMs hold promise for closing the loop in self-driving laboratories because they can conduct computation and virtual screening, interact with multiple instruments, evaluate results, and make informed experimental plans. The fundamental bottleneck in this integration is their lack of long-term focus, memory, continuity, and reasoning ability. We have therefore proposed the development of an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant that overcomes existing challenges with long-term memory and reasoning capabilities and demonstrates its interaction with researchers and computational/experimental resources using a model proton coupled electron transfer (PCET) electrochemical reaction. The visiting student will help with the software development and data management. Education and Experience Requirements The entirety of the appointment must be conducted within the United States. Applicants must be: ‒ Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited institution. ‒ Graduated from an accredited institution within the past 3 months; or ‒ Actively enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution. Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins. Must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. If accepting an offer, must pass a screening drug test Must complete a satisfactory background check.
