About The Position

Large language model (LLM) agents can now operate common data-analytics interfaces (e.g., databases, notebooks, dashboards). In practice, though, they are usually deployed as "one-and-done" helpers for short, well-scoped requests. Limited context windows and weak long-horizon memory make it difficult for agents to function as truly autonomous background workers that can propose and execute analyses over time and, critically, synthesize many small findings into clear, high-level summaries. Recent progress in context engineering and long-running agent designs suggests this limitation is starting to soften. Early demonstrations show that with the right scaffolding, agents can stay productive across extended periods (on the order of days to a week) while pursuing evolving objectives. Building on these ideas, this project investigates how to adapt long-running, continuously operating agents to HPC telemetry log data collections proposing and running analyses, and continuously distilling results into actionable insights for administrators and operators.
