POSITION SUMMARY: The Research Analyst supports the Destination Marketing Organization’s (DMO) research and insights function through the production of recurring performance reporting, ad hoc analytical support for strategic company-wide initiatives, and day-to-day research operations. This exciting analytics role is designed for an early-career analyst with strong Excel skills, foundational experience in Tableau, high attention to detail, and an interest in tourism, consumer insight, economics, hospitality and destination marketing analytics. The ideal candidate is curious about people and business, comfortable using data to communicate and eager to work in a collaborative environment where your peers are passionate about New York City.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, finance, marketing, data analytics, hospitality, urban planning or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, formulas, lookups and data cleaning/manipulation.
  • Working knowledge of Tableau, including building or updating dashboards and basic data visualizations.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and summarize insights clearly.
  • Excellent written communication skills and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines across weekly, monthly and annual reporting cycles. Appropriate sense of urgency in completing work is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with hotel performance metrics such as occupancy, ADR and RevPAR.
  • Experience working with recurring reporting cadences or standardized dashboards.
  • Prior internship, coursework, or professional experience involving applied data analysis or business intelligence tools.
  • Interest in tourism, destination marketing, consumer insight, New York City government or hospitality analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and distribute weekly hotel performance reports, including data validation, trend analysis and concise written insights for internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain monthly hotel reporting, synthesizing performance trends, seasonality and market dynamics. Data includes both current hotel performance, as well as forward-looking trends.
  • Build and maintain reporting tables using advanced Excel functionality, including pivot tables, lookups, calculated fields and structured templates.
  • Contribute to Tableau dashboards used for hotel and market performance reporting, ensuring data accuracy and clear visual storytelling.
  • Analyze visitor trends under the direction of the Research Manager to support organizational insights and strategic planning.
  • Assist with visitor segmentation analysis, including demographic, behavioral, geographic and trip-purpose segments.
  • Support cohort studies to understand changes in visitor behavior over time (e.g., repeat visitation, seasonality, booking patterns).
  • Analyze and synthesize government and public-sector visitation data (e.g., census, transportation, border, or tourism datasets) to inform market profiles.
  • Help build visitor profiles, summary presentations and fact sheets for internal teams, members and external stakeholders.
  • Translate complex datasets into clear, well-structured tables, charts, and narratives appropriate for non-technical audiences.
  • Provide ad hoc analytical support to the research, sales, membership and marketing teams under the direction of the VP of Research, including market performance summaries and custom data requests. Examples include analyzing Visa spend data, airline data, visitor affinity and attraction data and membership surveys post events, among others.
  • Translate quantitative analysis into clear, actionable insights aligned with marketing and organizational priorities.
  • Support the creation of summary tables, charts and visuals in Excel and Tableau for presentations and internal readouts.
  • Monitor and answer the research email inbox daily and ensure responses are sent within 24 hours, escalating complex inquiries to the Research Manager and Research VP when appropriate.
  • Monitor and maintain the membership research portal, ensuring content is accurate, up to date and easy to navigate.
  • Apply consistent tagging and metadata standards to all research collateral (reports, presentations, datasets) to support discoverability and knowledge management.
