About The Position

We are searching for an Undergraduate student to join the Quantum Research Department of the Communications, Information and Navigation Office (CINO) at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. The student will help build our new experiment regarding quantum frequency conversion in heterogeneous quantum networks. This experiment requires pressurized hydrogen gas and as such, we seek an individual who is comfortable with hands on work. The student will follow the piping schematic and assemble portions of the experiments. The end goal of this project is to connect to our already-existing entangled photon optical experiment and perform quantum frequency conversion.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate student status.
  • Comfortable with hands-on work.
  • Ability to follow technical schematics.
  • Basic knowledge of quantum mechanics.

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanically inclined or ability to learn new skills.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB.
  • Experience in data organization and report writing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in building experiments related to quantum frequency conversion.
  • Follow piping schematics to assemble portions of experiments.
  • Work with pressurized hydrogen gas safely.
  • Connect new experiments to existing entangled photon optical experiments.
  • Organize data collection and write reports on results.
