About The Position

This position will work closely with Dr. Dhawan and the other researchers in her lab at KU Medical Center (KUMC) to assist in the successful development and completion of basic science research studies in pancreatic cancer. The Research Assistant will contribute to ongoing research by performing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and assisting with the preparation of reports and publications. This position provides hands-on experience in pancreatic cancer while working closely with faculty and research team members to ensure adherence to study protocols and the accuracy of research data.

Requirements

  • Four years of relevant work experience in a basic science laboratory. Relevant education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
  • Experience in relevant laboratory techniques (such as, cell culture, animal models, and molecular biology techniques).

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in biological sciences.
  • Experience in cancer related pancreatitis research.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the implementation of cutting-edge research projects in the field of pancreatic cancer with a focus on pathophysiology, molecular signaling pathways, inflammation, and therapeutics.
  • Work independently on research tasks assigned by the principal investigator and other faculty members in the laboratory.
  • Handle pancreatic cancer mouse models by following laboratory protocols.
  • Perform molecular and cell biology techniques, such as DNA and RNA extractions, RT-PCR immunoblot analysis, immunofluorescence staining and tissue culture.
  • Assist with tasks associated with the development of grant proposals and additional funding needs of the laboratory.
  • Maintain a current laboratory notebook, documenting all calculations, work, experiments, and other pertinent research information.
  • Maintain lab cleanliness and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Maintain inventory of study supplies and support ordering processes.
