The Schafer lab focuses on understanding how the immune system interacts with the nervous system to regulate brain plasticity and inflammation in disease (Alzheimer’s, MS, autism, etc.). We use a variety of techniques such as confocal microscopy, single cell RNAseq, spatial transcriptomics, mouse genetics, and behavior to address how microglia modify synapses and, in turn, how these mechanisms go awry in disease. Our primary disease interests include, but are not limited to, autism, multiple sclerosis, and Alzheimer’s disease. You can find more information at https://www.schaferlabumms.com/ Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) or designee, the Research Associate I provides operational support to the laboratory. The Research Associate I will perform research experiments as defined by the PI.
