Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or education/experience equivalent
  • 3 years of experience in a role that emphasizes research and qualitative and quantitative analysis, including (but not limited to): legal, corporate research, management consulting, investment banking, or accounting
  • Database research skills, ideally with a working knowledge of a various external research databases -- including Capital IQ, Hoovers, LexMachina, Litigation Analytics, and Bloomberg Law, among others
  • Must have intermediate database research skills, ideally with a working knowledge of a various external research databases -- including Capital IQ, Hoovers, LexMachina, Litigation Analytics, and Bloomberg Law, among others
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) to synthesize and present findings, with extensive experience in Excel preferred.
  • Overall aptitude for continuous improvement, efficiencies, and automation, and the ability to quickly adapt to and utilize new research databases and software.
  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills, effectively engaging individuals at all levels of the organization and conveying complex issues clearly, concisely, and persuasively.
  • High level of interpersonal skills, demonstrating poise, tact, and diplomacy in handling sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Ability to define problems, develop creative solutions, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to analyze data and identify business trends to formulate recommendations for firm business development opportunities.
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of research techniques, methodologies, business terminology, and concepts relating to corporate organizational structures and issues related to competitive business strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting research and analysis of clients, industries, markets, technologies, and competitors to support business development activities for individual attorneys, practice groups, industry teams, and firm leaders.
  • Analyzing, evaluating, and translating data to provide actionable insights and recommendations to attorneys and business development teams.
  • Identifying the strategic and legal needs of existing and prospective clients to share potential opportunities for securing new business with the business development team and attorneys.
  • Scoping projects to identify the most pertinent questions and develop the most relevant work product responsive to internal client needs.
  • Completing research regarding strategic markets, including geographic regions, area of law, industry sectors, and practice areas to support strategies for practice expansion and/or improvement.
  • Extracting data by industry sectors, geography, attorneys, office, and practice groups for use in pitches, Requests for Proposal (RFPs), client data analyses, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Conducting research on competitor firms by monitoring industry trends and demographics, including expansion and development plans, revenues, lateral hires, office openings, and other key events.
  • Identifying and analyze competitor best practices for expansion of practice groups, and compile findings into concise insights for attorneys.
