About The Position

Intern will be performing clinical research on geriatric fracture outcomes. The research intern will be supported by the Orthopaedic Department at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the mentor will be Dr. Carol A. Lin. Dr. Lin is a a board-certified orthopaedic faculty surgeon and Associate Professor at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. Prior to joining Cedars-Sinai, she completed an Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation Young Investigator and NIH T32 grant-funded clinical research fellowship at the University of Minnesota studying outcomes in open and closed tibia fractures. She then completed an Orthopaedic Trauma Association approved clinical fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma at Cedars-Sinai. While in medical school, she spent one year as a fully-funded Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellow which allowed me to obtain a Master's in Clinical Research concurrently with my medical degree. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of multiple national and regional subspecialty societies such as the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, American Orthopaedic Association, AO North America, and Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society. She is currently the director of the Geriatric Fracture and Bone Health Program at Cedars and will be the Chair of the AOA Own the Bone Committee next year. She has made the care of geriatric fractures patients a clinical and research focus of her career.

Requirements

  • Intern will need to be added to the IRB study.
  • Intern will need to be added to the IACUC study.
  • Interns are not permitted to physician shadow or conduct clinical observation unrelated to studies.
  • Intern can interact with study participants as related to study only. Must be added to IRB and receive training prior to interacting with study participants. Must be supervised when interacting with participants.
  • Remote access to PHI is prohibited.
  • Research interns are only permitted view-only CS-Link access.
  • Certain systems may not be accessed remotely or on personal computers.
  • CS-Link use not permitted remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Analysis
  • Communication with statistician
  • Manuscript preparation and presentation
  • Participate in general orthopaedic didactics for fractures and geriatric topics
  • Work with residents and the full-time research associate as well as the department research administrative staff to learn about about research administration in addition to performing clinical research for a dedicated project
