About The Position

The Molecular Analysis Facility (MAF) is a fully staffed fee-for-use instrumentation facility for users from the UW, other universities, and industry. Capabilities include microscopy, spectroscopy, and surface science. Users can be trained to independently perform experiments, or an experienced staff member can perform experiments for the users for a fee. The MAF tools support a wide range of users including both academic and industrial. MAF tools commonly support research in fields of Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Life Sciences and multiple Engineering disciplines. The MAF is a fee-for-use facility. Much of the funding comes from users who pay a fee to use the tools and have staff assistance. Currently other funds come from state funds - the UW Provost funds and from the UW Clean Energy institute. This Research Scientist/Engineer 3 is NOT a research position. This position supports the Molecular Analysis Facility (MAF), which provides academic and industrial users access to advanced characterization tools. The Research Scientist/Engineer 3 is responsible for the demonstration, training, and sample evaluation using a variety of analytical techniques within the Molecular Analysis Facility (MAF). Primary emphasis is on the Thermo Fisher Helios 5UX DualBeam Focused Ion Beam (FIB), and/or Thermo Fisher Apreo Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Secondary emphasis on Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM).
