About The Position

The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is seeking a qualified candidate to fill one full-time position (either NYC or Albany) of Research Scientist III in the Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS), Division of Planning, Research, Information Management and Evaluation (PRIME) in collaboration with New York University on research related to examine substance use treatment outcomes among transition-age adults (ages 18-25 years) with opioid use disorder. Research will inform substance use treatment organizational changes, payer incentives, and government policies to improve treatment for this important population. The Research Scientist will work closely with New York University's team on data analysis and database management. This position requires skills in presenting data visuals to wide audiences, especially those without a data background. A successful candidate will have experience collaborating with professional and support staff; strong organizational, writing, and oral communication skills; the ability to work cooperatively with diverse stakeholders; and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Expertise in R/SAS/SLQ strongly desired.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree is required from an accredited college or university in a relevant social science AND four years research, evaluation, or data management experience; OR A Master's degree or J.D. is required from an accredited college or university in a relevant social science AND a minimum of three years of research, evaluation, or data management experience; OR A Ph.D. is required from an accredited college or university in a relevant social science AND a minimum of two years of research, evaluation, or data management experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the use of R, SAS and/or SQL evidenced by having had at least 2 years of full-time work.
  • Expert in organizing, managing, and analyzing quantitative data using descriptive statistics evidenced by having had at least 2 years of full-time work.
  • An advanced degree in public health, biostatistics, public administration, public policy, management, political science, government, law, or a closely related field.
  • Expert with technical data management and analysis using public health and administrative health service data.
  • Strong research skills and ability to proactively gather and analyze information from disparate sources.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Able to summarize complex concepts quickly, clearly, and concisely for audiences at all levels.
  • Experience with scientific writing and publication in peer-reviewed journals desirable.
  • Familiarity with youth or young adult populations in a public health context and/or working in a state or local government environment desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a project team consisting of a Principal Investigator, NYU, and subject matter experts within the OASAS Division of PRIME.
  • Responsible for extracting and creating analytical data sets from New York Medicaid and OASAS administrative databases.
  • Responsible for tasks required by the research study including database management, programming, statistical analysis, and creating performance feedback systems.
  • Assist in the regular convening of a Stakeholder Oversight Committee comprised of representative members from health insurers, treatment providers, and affected individual and families to provide guidance and support to the study.
  • Responsible for coordination of transfers of data to the investigative team at NYU.
  • Present project information and finding to internal and external stakeholders.
