About The Position

Works under minimal supervision to provide responsible technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to particular field of science. The Ly Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Research Technician II. Our lab investigates how errors in mitotic cell division drive genomic instability and contribute to cancer development. The successful candidate will receive hands-on training in modern cell and molecular biology techniques and will conduct collaborative research involving human cell lines and mouse models. This role offers significant intellectual engagement, with opportunities to contribute to ongoing research projects, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. The candidate will also be an active participant in lab meetings, journal clubs, and the broader scientific life of the laboratory. This position is ideal for candidates seeking deep research experience in a dynamic, well-funded laboratory with strong mentorship and opportunities for professional growth. In addition to research responsibilities, this position plays a central role in laboratory operations. The Research Technician II will help ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of the lab, including organization, inventory management, ordering, compliance, and coordination of shared resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree With major coursework in field of assignment and no experience or
  • Two (2) years of college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment or
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • No experience required with Bachelor's Degree or
  • 2 years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with two (2) years of college or
  • 4 years of laboratory experience including two years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with High School Graduation or GED equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Perform cell and molecular biology experiments related to cancer biology
  • Work with human cell lines and mouse models
  • Contribute to research projects, data generation, and publications
  • Participate in lab meetings, journal clubs, and collaborative discussions
  • Manage day-to-day laboratory operations, organization, and inventory
  • Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
  • Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
  • Assists in collection of data for project reports.
  • Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
  • May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
