Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • 7 years of relevant experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • OSHA Safety Requirements required

Responsibilities

  • Performs advanced wet-laboratory and animal research to support the development of gene-targeted therapies for neuromuscular diseases.
  • Designs and executes experiments using mammalian cell lines, mouse models, and C. elegans to investigate disease mechanisms and evaluate therapeutic strategies.
  • Develops, optimizes, and implements molecular, cellular, and in vivo techniques, including gene delivery and expression analysis.
  • Analyzes and interprets data, troubleshoots experimental challenges, and prepares reports and research documentation.
  • May coordinate animal studies and provide technical guidance to junior staff and trainees.
  • Exercises independent technical judgment to design and execute experiments in cell lines, mouse models, and C. elegans, selecting appropriate molecular, cellular, and in vivo approaches to address research objectives.
  • Develops and refines protocols for a range of experiments including expression analysis and phenotypic assessments.
  • Reviews and integrates relevant scientific literature to inform experimental design; analyzes and interprets molecular, histological, behavioral, and functional data.
  • Prepares detailed reports, protocols, and summaries outlining hypotheses, methodologies, results, and conclusions for internal documentation, publications, and grant support.
  • Plans and conducts complex, non-routine technical procedures, including molecular cloning, vector preparation, genotyping, microscopy, behavioral assays, and tissue processing.
  • Sets up, calibrates, and maintains specialized laboratory equipment and instrumentation required for cellular and animal studies.
  • May coordinate animal colony management, schedule and oversee in vivo studies, and provide technical training and oversight to junior staff, students, or trainees; may contribute input regarding performance and staffing decisions.
  • Oversees laboratory operations, including maintenance of biological safety level (BSL) compliance and certifications, monitoring and managing reagent and animal inventories, and ordering and receiving laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Ensures proper documentation, storage, and regulatory adherence for biological materials.
  • Performs other related duties in support of laboratory research objectives.
