Location Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center Job Description Job Summary: This position offers a great opportunity to participate in very exciting research on neural development and neurodegeneration, which will lead to publications in the near future.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- One to two years laboratory experience preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively, works independently and under supervision, and function as a research team member.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Ideally previous lab experience in molecular biology (DNA, RNA, PCR and Western) and R programing.
- Mouse work experience is strongly preferred.
- The candidate will have skilled hands, be detail oriented and well organized.
- Candidates interested in applying to medical school or graduate school in 1-2 years are strongly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Performs research with molecular and cell biological techniques including PCR, DNA and RNA extraction, immunostaining, Western-blotting, cell culture, and sequencing data analysis using R
- Animal experiment (Animal handling (newborn mice and rats), feeding pups via an oro-gastric tube, observation of the pups, Collection of intestinal tissue).
- Lab management: managing mouse colonies, ordering supplies and managing mouse and safety protocols.
- Routine, general lab work (Solutions preparation, animal formula preparation, autoclaving lab ware and sterilizing instruments, keeping bench clean, cleaning of objects used for experiments and disposal of waste
- Data collection, timely sample processing and storage.
- Willing to learn and improve/develop techniques.
