Job Summary: Provides quality, efficient and loving care to each resident in a personalized way. Assists in the common goal of maintaining the well being of each resident by working as a primary caregiver. Meets the basic needs of assigned residents by supervising or assisting residents with ADLs. Job Relationships: A. Reports to: Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse, and Director of Nursing. B. Interrelationships with: Other Nursing Assistants, Transportation Aides, Rehabilitation Aides. C. Internal Contacts: Activities, Housekeeping, Dietary, and Maintenance personnel. D. External Contacts: Visitors, family and friends or residents, and volunteers. Hours of Work: Shift work will vary depending on shift and floor Day shift – 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM Evening shift – 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM Night shift – 10:00PM – 6:30 AM Scheduled to work every other weekend, including holiday rotation. Dress Code: Uniform projecting a professional image with identification name badge. Essential Requirement of Work: (Minimum qualifications necessary to function at full productivity). A. Training: Successful completion of an approved competency evaluation or an approved nursing assistant training program and competency evaluation within four months from the date of employment. B. In-serve Education: No less than 12-hours per year to ensure continued competence and address any areas of weakness as determined by performance reviews. C. Experience: Previous health care or geriatric healthcare desirable. D. Knowledge, Skills, and Ability for Full Performance: a. Ability and desire to follow all safety procedures. b. Ability to read and write in English. c. Ability to foster independence, self-respect, and self-worth in each client by consistent understanding and kindness. d. Use of equipment including tubs, lifts, splints, but not limited to, and ability to take vital signs. e. Knowledge of basic health and identifying changes in residents. f. Ability to successfully complete tasks on time and to be of assistance to others. g. Knowledge and appreciation of all rules and guidelines for resident care such as transfers and cleaning procedures. h. Use of transfer devices, safety procedures, and proper lifting techniques. i. Ability to use a computer. E. Personal: a. Ability to perform well with co-workers in a teamwork setting. b. Respect for others, residents, and staff alike. c. Ability to communicate. i. Ability to interpret or explain certain procedures or activities, to enlist and maintain cooperation from residents. d. Ability to read, understand, and follow directions. e. Genuine interest and willingness to work with cognitively impaired and/or geriatric aged clients. f. Time management skills. Physical Demands of the Job: 1. Frequent bending and stooping 2. Standing for prolonged periods of time 3. Patient handlers must sign & comply with the Skilled Nursing Facility Safe Patient Handling Policy. Mental Demands of the Job: 1. Working in an environment with many residents who exhibit a wide range of emotions and needs including occasionally aggressive residents. 2. Ability to operate within time restraints. 3. Ability to change work assignments with short notice. Quality Performance results in: 1. The residents feeling good about themselves and will show signs of being physically and mentally healthy. 2. Residents will willingly cooperate with their cares. 3. Residents participating in promoting good health and wellness. 4. Residents feel comfortable to share their needs and problems. 5. Proper dressing results in resident being in warm, comfortable environment. 9. Accurate charting provides dependable and true representation of the resident. 10. Safe transferring leads to a safe, mobile resident. 11. Respecting resident’s rights leads to further respect toward the worker. 12. Cleaning resident’s rooms by putting objects in appropriate places will help others to find those items more quickly and more conveniently.
