About The Position

Weston & Sampson is currently seeking a Resident Engineer to lead field observation of a two-year PCB-impacted paint abatement project in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The PCB-impacted paints are within a critical infrastructure facility for the Greater Boston Area wastewater system; the abatement will improve air quality within the facility building. Responsibilities include monitoring the PCB abatement and remediation, evaluating contractor performance, and ensuring work aligns with project requirements and environmental controls. The project will require careful coordination with the client, contract administration and reporting, and close communication with engineers working in support. Following completion of this project, the successful candidate will have the option of continuing in a full-time position with the Weston & Sampson remediation team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field, or equivalent background.
  • Minimum 10 Years of experience providing resident engineering services including with PCB and other hazardous building material abatement and remediation.
  • Experience with general construction inspection policies, procedures and administrative requirements.
  • Working knowledge and experience with interpreting contract documents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational/time management skills.
  • OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety training compliant with 29 CFR 1926.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER with current 8-hour refresher.
  • Valid driver’s license and able to provide own reliable transportation.
  • Availability for extended hours as needed.
  • Provide a flexible working schedule as project needs arise.

Nice To Haves

  • Massachusetts PE License or EIT
  • Experience preparing high-quality field documentation.
  • Understanding of combined sewer/stormwater treatment facilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with contractors, engineers, and state agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full-time on-site observation and documentation of work quality and progress.
  • Act as the field liaison between the client and contractor.
  • Facilitate communication between the home office, client, and contractor, particularly regarding submittals.
  • Assist in interpreting contract documents.
  • Review contractor schedules, shop drawings, and schedule of values.
  • Attend pre-construction kickoff and bi‑weekly progress meetings.
  • Notify the project team of any work initiated without required approved submittals.
  • Verify the accuracy and relevance of certificates, manuals, and other documentation.
  • Conduct and document daily site reviews for general and substantial conformance.
  • Report unsatisfactory or non‑conforming work.
  • Maintain organized field office files, including a daily project diary. Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
  • Maintain wage‑rate and affirmative-action compliance records.
