About The Position

As a Resident Engineer, you will oversee construction inspection and project management activities for highway, bridge, and civil infrastructure projects. This role requires hands-on field experience, technical expertise, and leadership to ensure projects meet design, safety, and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent certification
  • Active New York Professional Engineer (PE) license or NICET IV required
  • Minimum 8 years of experience as a Resident Engineer; 5 years in highway and bridge construction
  • Experience with NYSDOT or NYSTA projects preferred
  • Strong knowledge of rail design practices and construction techniques
  • Meet background check requirements
  • 30-Hour OSHA Certification
  • Working knowledge of CPM scheduling; P6 experience preferred
  • Ability to perform quantity and engineering computations, interpret plans and specifications, and apply inspection codes and material testing requirements
  • Familiarity with relevant codes, regulations, and standards
  • Proficiency with computer software and mobile devices for documentation and reporting
  • Physical ability to perform site inspections in various weather conditions
  • Detail-oriented with excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Experience with design-build and conventional project delivery
  • Strong stakeholder and client communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to resolve construction-related issues.
  • Review project documentation, including plans, drawings, and specifications, for accuracy and completeness.
  • Review and approve engineering and project submissions such as RFIs, working drawings, and value engineering requests.
  • Conduct materials inspection and acceptance prior to installation.
  • Monitor construction activities to verify adherence to plans and specifications.
  • Track, document, and manage project issues and conditions.
  • Document field conditions and completed work.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide technical guidance on construction inspection; record meeting minutes when required.
  • Contribute to and prepare monthly project status reports.
