About The Position

An exciting opportunity is available for a strong leader with a diverse Florida Park Service background to fill the position of Park Manager II at Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park. The staffing consists of 5 FTE’s including 1 Biological Scientist II, 2 Rangers, 2 Park Service Specialists, and  OPS staff.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of natural resource management practices to include prescribed fire, sea turtle monitoring practices, appropriate methods for control of invasive plants and animals, Florida Park Service Operations Manual, routine, preventive and corrective maintenance necessary to meet FPS standards.

Responsibilities

  • Explains facilities and services provided for public use, enjoyment and education; meets visitors, answers questions, provides information and directions. Attempts to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations. Coordinates interpretive programs, activities, and schedules. Supervises the staff in providing visitor services.
  • Participates in and supervises the resource management program. Implements ecological burning plan for fire type plant communities; recognizes communities, utilizes control burning techniques and maintains fire lanes. Implements vegetation and wildlife management plans; recognizes communities and maintains optimum species control via natural and chemical means. Implements site restoration projects such as reforestation and erosion control. Implements water resources management plans.
  • Identifies maintenance needs through daily inspections. Maintains maintenance schedules and supervises the staff to ensure maintenance on a daily, weekly and yearly basis is regularly performed. Supervises and assists with the maintenance of grounds, facilities and equipment. Constructs, maintains, and repairs small buildings, fences, trails, service roads, fire lanes, boardwalks, campsites, picnic sites, boat ramps, docks and all other necessary facilities. Maintains cleanliness of grounds and facilities.
  • Participates in employee training, supervision and discipline. Supervises the staff in fiscal, purchasing, and property procedures and policies. Participates in the administration of the collective bargaining agreement and maintains good employee relations. Coordinates work schedules and assignments. Checks reports, fee collection, and miscellaneous records prepared by the staff.
  • Ensures park rules are enforced pertaining to all facilities and resources, and use thereof, for the enjoyment of the visitor. Prepares and implements the Park Protection Plan in accordance with Operations Policy Manual.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
