About The Position

The Residential Experience Coordinator at the Vanderbilt University – NYC campus is the primary point of contact for residents and provides responsive and direct support in all residence halls. Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Residential Experience. This is a 12-month live-in position with flexible working hours based on the needs of the residence hall community. This position is based in New York City and works onsite. This position is a full-time, exempt, fully benefits eligible role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree in area of student personnel, education, counseling or related areas is preferred.
  • Demonstrated administrative skills including an ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated proficiency of communication skills, including verbal, written, and interpersonal
  • Experience with student conduct / judicial processes
  • Strong decision-making skills and the ability to work autonomously
  • Demonstrated experience working with crisis response
  • Previous residence hall or related experience
  • Demonstrated experience in community development

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate and help sustain a community environment within the residence halls that promotes and enhance students' educational, social and personal development.
  • Assist with residential student engagement.
  • Create direct connections with students, serve as a resource, and make appropriate referrals to resources.
  • Provide follow-up for students of concern as directed by the Assistant Director.
  • Proactively address roommate conflicts and provide roommate mediation, when needed, and facilitate room changes if necessary.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to housing policies, solving problems, as needed.
  • Connect students in crisis to appropriate resources.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all incidents and referrals.
  • Conduct regular rounds of residential buildings to ensure cleanliness, maintenance, and security of facilities.
  • Assist in planning and executing welcome events for incoming students each semester.
  • Provide administrative and student support for community-building and experiential learning programs at the direction of the Director of Student Affairs and Senior Associate Provost.
  • Submit work orders for facilities issues and triage low-level, urgent issues until facilities and maintenance teams arrive on-site.
  • Liaise with maintenance and custodial team regarding work orders and housing facilities issues.
  • Coordinate and support operational functions, key distribution and collection, lockouts, reporting, reconciliation and billing of all key charges.
  • Assists in providing tours of the residential areas.
  • Help plan and execute end of semester/term transitions and resident departures (including student check out, damage reports, and billing).
  • Support summer GTS preparations and Vanderbilt occupancy readiness for Maymester and Summer programs.
  • Serve in an on-call rotation to ensure the safety and welfare of residential students, responding to incidents of crisis that can occur after hours and on weekends on the campus in accordance with established procedures.
  • Conduct follow-up and utilize campus and community resources to address situations.
  • Work closely with Vanderbilt University Public Safety, Student Accountability, Student Care Network, and other campus partners.
  • Provide student follow-up related to safety, health and well-being.
  • Contribute to the broader mission and objectives of Student Affairs and the University by serving on divisional and institutional committees, task forces, and working groups.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of relevant university policies, procedures, and systems—such as those related to travel, procurement, expense, and time reporting—to ensure effective, compliant, and responsible operations.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative spirit by supporting divisional colleagues and engaging in efforts that advance shared goals and strategic priorities.
