About The Position

The GRIT program by the Mental Health Association (MHA) offers residential rehabilitation for individuals with substance use challenges and co-occurring mental health conditions. GRIT provides a structured, supportive environment focused on recovery, personal growth, and long-term stability. Residents engage in individualized counseling, recovery-focused programming, and community activities like education, job training, or employment. With locations in Springfield (men’s programs) and Holyoke (LGBTQIA+ program), GRIT combines the comforts of home with access to vital resources. A skilled, multidisciplinary team works closely with each resident to build a strong foundation for recovery and create personalized aftercare plans for a successful return to the community. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ The Residential Recovery Specialist (RRS) provides support to residents and the program during hours when the Program Supervisor is not on-site. This role focuses on building relationships, promoting a safe and recovery-focused environment, and upholding MHA’s Core Values of Respect, Integrity, and Compassion. Responsibilities include assisting residents with critical needs, maintaining program expectations, communicating urgent issues to leadership, ensuring safety, and supporting program upkeep as requested by the Program Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, acceptable driving record, and sufficient insurance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to work independently, manage time, and prioritize tasks.
  • Effective oral, written, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Compassion, patience, strong interpersonal skills and understanding of trauma-informed care.
  • Must be able to pass and maintain certifications in CPR and First Aid.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with individuals impacted by homelessness, trauma, psychiatric diagnoses, and/or substance use is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensure resident activities align with program expectations.
  • Provide supportive interventions from a trauma-informed and strengths-based perspective.
  • Support individuals in work towards meeting their established goals, as requested.
  • Assist residents with daily living tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry, as needed.
  • Monitor and document resident behavior, progress, and incidents.
  • Provide crisis support and de-escalation as needed.
  • Ensure program spaces are clean, safe, and organized.
  • Communicate consistently with team members and supervisors.
  • Promote a recovery-oriented, person-centered culture within the residence.
