As a Resource Planning Consultant, you’ll turn complex data into smart decisions—integrating renewables, storage, and market insights to shape a reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy system, with the balance of working 2–3 days in the office. Job Summary The Resource Planning Consultant I is responsible for economic analysis and strategy with a focus on integrating renewables and storage to plan for the clean energy grid of the future. This position supports the development team on optimal resource planning decisions. This role serves on a data-driven team that believes in continuous improvement and collaboration while always looking to develop better tools, processes, and modeling approaches through learning and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Emphasis in business, engineering or related field Preferred Required
  • 1 year of experience
  • Ability to demonstrate technical and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
  • Ability to setup, maintain and draw conclusions from large data sets.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced working knowledge of Excel and related analytical tools preferred.
  • Knowledge of analytical methods and analysis preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for working on capacity and long-term resource forecasts and models.
  • Works on routine activities to learn and maintain deterministic and stochastic model inputs and outputs; operates the model and creates reports from model outputs.
  • Gathers and aggregates information from subject matter experts to ensure valid input assumptions.
  • Assists in troubleshooting processes, exploring process improvements, documenting processes, and implementing process improvements.
  • Develops an understanding of appropriate procedures, policy tools, systems, and regulations related to utility resource planning models (such as Aurora, ProMod, etc.), Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), and capacity market rules.
  • Coordinates with transmission planning and assists with MISO Generator Interconnection Agreements (GIA) and load balancing authority (LBA) duties.
  • Monitors transmission congestion on the MISO system.
  • Gains a basic understanding of the business of a regulated electric utility including details of our fuel recovery rules in each of Alliant Energy’s jurisdictions.
  • Assists in writing and supporting responses to regulatory requests.
  • Engage in other duties as needed that support our Values and help deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
