Summit Medical Center is looking for a PRN Respiratory Therapist to join our team. Position is available at our Edmond hospital, both day and night, available on an as-needed basis. Position Summary: Provides respiratory therapy to patients as ordered by physicians, according to established standards and practices. The staffing of Summit Medical Center is based on a teamwork concept. Employees may be cross-trained in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change.

Requirements

  • Post High School Specialized Training.
  • Maintains license as RCP through the Oklahoma Medical Board.
  • Previous respiratory therapy experience required.
  • Ability to adequately assess, diagnose, plan and implement necessary interventions and evaluate patient condition.
  • Compliance with the attendance policy.
  • Compliance with continuing and mandatory education programs.
  • Possesses appropriate communication skills to practice collaborative care.
  • Ability to respond quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and /or the patient’s condition changes.
  • Ability to read and write (legibly).
  • Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively.
  • Ability to understand and resolve simple to complex problems.
  • Ability to constantly walk, stand, and/or lift.
  • Ability to frequently utilize full range of motion, including crouching, stooping, reaching, bending and twisting.
  • Ability to frequently lift, pull, push heavy equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to see and hear and distinguish color.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to function independently without constant supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, and quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Sets up equipment and medications and administers respiratory treatment as ordered by the physician; charts treatment, response, and progress.
  • Monitors environmental control systems and patients on continuous ventilation.
  • Performs nasotracheal and tracheal suctioning.
  • Observes patients, checks equipment, and makes changes as necessary during patient rounds.
  • Sets up bronchoscopy equipment and assists physicians during procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
  • Maintains and cares for department equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains established center/departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and center related business.
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors and other center employees.
  • Documents concisely, precisely and accurately on all records or documents as indicated by policy.
  • Participates in Quality Assessment activities as directed for the continuous improvement of patient care and center business.
