About The Position

The Retail Merchandiser is responsible for curating and managing compelling, brand-right assortments that drive customer engagement and support sales across channels. This role partners closely with Planning to inform decisions through selling analysis, while maintaining primary ownership of product selection, assortment strategy, and in-season merchandising execution. The ideal candidate balances trend intuition with data-informed decision-making and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative retail environment. This person should have a strong understanding of brick and mortar assortments and local customer needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising, Business, Fashion, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in buying or merchandising, preferably within specialty retail or apparel.
  • Strong understanding of brick and mortar story telling and merchandise presentation
  • Strong understanding of the Tuckernuck brand, customer, and aesthetic.
  • Highly proficient in Excel and reporting tools; comfortable interpreting sales and inventory data to inform product decisions.
  • Strong communication, vendor management, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple timelines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and solutions-driven with a strong merchandising point of view.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze selling performance to inform assortment depth, SKU rationalization, and in-season product actions, in partnership with Planning.
  • Monitor the competitive landscape and emerging trends to ensure assortments remain relevant, differentiated, and aligned with the Tuckernuck customer.
  • Own product curation and seasonal assortment strategy for assigned categories, ensuring a cohesive point of view across channels.
  • Partner with Styling, Creative, and E-Commerce teams to support online merchandising, product storytelling, and seasonal campaign alignment.
  • Make product-level recommendations related to markdowns, exits, and lifecycle management, supported by performance insights and customer demand.
  • Collaborate closely with Planning to support inventory health, demand forecasting, and replenishment needs for assigned categories.
  • Review weekly, monthly, and seasonal selling reports to identify risks, opportunities, and actionable product insights.
  • Monitor shipment status, vendor compliance, and order changes; proactively communicate issues that may impact assortment flow or timing.
  • Support end-of-season hindsight analysis by providing product and assortment learnings to inform future buys.
  • Partner with Design (where applicable) to support private-label development, line reviews, and product feedback.
  • Work with Marketing and Creative to identify key styles, storytelling moments, and promotional opportunities tied to product launches and seasonal focus items.
  • Communicate product knowledge, trend insights, and assortment strategies to internal teams and key stakeholders.
