The Retail Sales Manager is responsible for overseeing the coordinated operation of all retail functions and retail locations in the council. The Retail Sales Manager works collaboratively with other members of the council management team to establish sales objectives, and to develop and implement annual sales, expense and profit plans. The Retail Sales Manager also develops the annual marketing plans to promote and stimulate the sale of Girl Scout merchandise while meeting the needs of girls, adult members, employed staff and visitors. Work collaboratively with members of the council management team to develop a sales, expense and profit plan that supports the business and program objectives of the council, and that meets the needs of the council membership. Formulate council-wide pricing policies on merchandise according to planned profitability of retail operations. Ensure coordination with all non-merchandising functions to include accounting, marketing, membership, program, communications, and business operations to obtain optimum efficiency of operations and minimize costs. Review and analyze sales data and operating and financial statements to identify merchandising opportunities and liabilities that require additional promotion or other initiatives to achieve business objectives. Develop and maintain an effective relationship with Girl Scout Merchandise and Girl Scouts of the USA (GSM / GSUSA) and the GSM merchandising team to keep abreast of business strategies, best practices, tactical updates and new product development. Adapts GSM planogram to specific store layout in accordance with council needs and goals and works to ensure merchandising features are consistent with GSM recommendations. Develop store hours of operation, schedules and staffing plans for all retail outlets that provide for shopping convenience and outstanding customer service. Develop and establish an inventory control system. Conducts periodic and annual inventories and maintains accurate inventory controls to meet seasonal and special needs of the council’s customers. Review policies and procedures for retail operations, and ensure appropriate standards and execution are in place, including customer and community relations protocols. Ensure adherence to all operational policies and procedures, including cash handling, point-of-sale (POS) processes, and store security. Develop and manage assigned operating budget. Monitor expenses to ensure that the retail operation is within the council’s approved budget. Deliver exceptional customer service to Girl Scout members, volunteers, and parents/caregivers, and train retail staff to uphold the same standard. Manage the effective development and retention of high performing retail staff. Ensure end of the month reporting to CFO and GSUSA. Perform other duties as assigned.
