About The Position

The Retail Space Planner is responsible for optimizing store layouts, planograms, and space allocation across grocery and alcohol categories. This role leverages merch & supply chain strategy along with sales and shopper insights to maximize sales per square foot, improve category flow, and enhance the overall customer shopping experience. The ideal candidate understands ambient, fresh, and cold/frozen grocery merchandising along with the unique compliance, premiumization, and seasonal dynamics of alcohol retail. Gopuff takes pride in creative problem solving and in-person collaborating to make quick and informed decisions. This role will have a hybrid work schedule, spending time both remotely and on site in retail locations reviewing store layouts and gathering data to enhance space planning decisions. This role will support BevMo, Liquor Barn, and Gopuff Retail locations across the U.S. and will require travel to store locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Retail Management, Merchandising, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2–5+ years of experience in retail space planning, preferably in grocery, alcohol, or big-box retail environments.
  • Proficiency in space planning software and advanced Google Sheets skills.
  • Strong understanding of grocery category flow and alcohol segmentation (wine varietals, spirits types, craft/import/domestic beer).
  • Knowledge of inventory management principles and replenishment impacts on space planning.
  • Strong analytical and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in ambiguous environments and create structured, scalable processes
  • Demonstrated ability to set objectives and goals and organize work appropriately to meet and exceed expectations. Possess strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience in multi-store or multi-format retail environments.
  • Familiarity with cooler optimization and high-velocity perishable categories.
  • Understanding of consumer behavior, promotional lift analysis, and assortment rationalization.
  • Experience working with supplier and distributor performance data.

Responsibilities

  • Own category space allocation strategy across grocery and alcohol, balancing sales, productivity, inventory turns, and customer flow.
  • Ability to analyze large datasets to identify item productivity and assortment optimization opportunities
  • Develop and maintain planograms for grocery and alcohol categories using space planning software (e.g., Blue Yonder/JDA, AutoCad, or similar tools).
  • Develop and maintain store merchandising calendars and display placement guidance, partnering with Merchandising and Supply Chain teams
  • Ensure compliance with local and state alcohol regulations, including signage and placement restrictions.
  • Lead end-to-end company resets including vendor alignment, store communication, timeline management, and field issue resolution.
  • Partner with Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Operations teams to execute new product launches and merchandising initiatives.
  • Lead new store openings, remodels, and format conversions with accurate floor plans and fixture layouts.
  • Establish and maintain standardized documentation and asset libraries including store maps, fixture libraries, planograms, and compliance guides to support long-term scalability
