About The Position

The Department does not sponsor non-immigrant work visas for this position. In conjunction with the Revenue Section Manager and Revenue Division Manager, utilizes performance management techniques to ensure daily management of the employees and work activities of the Tax Collection Group. Job duties include: 1. Plans, prioritizes, assigns and directs the work activities of subordinate Collection staff to attain work goals and to ensure consistent application of administrative and program policies, procedures, statutes, rules and regulations. 2. Confers with the Revenue Section Manager and the Revenue Division Manager to develop policies, procedures and standards. 3. Confers with other Compliance Supervisors to identify the type and impact of work problems, and to formulate possible solutions. 4. Supervises subordinate agents in all areas of tax collection, enforcement and compliance. 5. Reviews and approves legal documents prepared to enforce collection and compliance with tax laws. 6. Represents the Department of Revenue in revocation hearings for delinquent taxpayers. Conducts informal tax conferences with taxpayers to resolve account delinquencies and educate the taxpayer in their responsibilities. 7. Develops work performance standards and their application in order to evaluate work performance such as SMART Goals, and huddle metrics. 8. Makes decisions regarding daily work schedules and establishes section priorities. Compares work performance of staff with established standards to determine the quality and quantity of the employee's work. Identifies employee training needs and career advancement potential. 9. Completes special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in business or related field plus two years of experience with tax return preparation, tax compliance, business ownership and operation, account research and analysis, or interpretation and application of policies, laws, rules, or regulations and supervisory or work leader experience.
  • Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

Nice To Haves

  • one year of experience in tax administration and experience coordinating, leading, directing or supervising the work of others
  • extensive experience using database or spreadsheet software.
  • knowledge of State tax programs, statutes, rules, regulations, and principles of supervision.
  • Knowledge of: State and federal rules and regulations pertaining to tax programs; principles of accounting; administrative management theories and practices.
  • Ability to: Organize work assignments; provide oral and written assessments of proposed legislation, regulations or policies; formulate plans for efficient and effective operation of a work unit; communicate effectively with agency staff and the public; interact effectively with co-workers, government officials, and the public to share or obtain information.
  • Skill in assessing and evaluating employee performance and resolving interpersonal conflicts.
