About The Position

If you are passionate about helping people prepare for the unpredictable, join Maricopa County’s Department of Risk Management. We seek an enthusiastic and analytical Risk Control Specialist to develop, coordinate, and conduct safety training, audit fieldwork procedures, conduct injury/vehicle collision investigations, and review field safety surveys to ensure compliance with policies and regulations. In this position, you will review and evaluate work activities and procedures County-wide to advise on safety and loss prevention trends and related safety issues. You will work with a team of risk management professionals, ensuring accurate assessments and administration of risk services to the County.

Requirements

  • Two years of professional experience in safety, injury/vehicle collision prevention, or occupational health and safety training
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Management, Risk Management, Public Administration, or a related field
  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
  • Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire

  • Experience conducting facility inspections and incident investigations

Responsibilities

  • Develop and identify occupational safety and health programs based on current trends
  • Conduct occupational safety and health audits and surveys of employee work practices and County operations
  • Investigate on-the-job injuries and vehicle accidents to determine the root cause and make recommendations to prevent the recurrence of incidents
  • Conduct assessments on county field, shop, warehouse, storage, and office facilities to ensure compliance with 29 CFR OSHA 1910 General Industry and 1926 Construction Industry Occupational Safety and Health Standards, NFPA fire and life safety codes, and Maricopa County policies
  • Educate employees through general safety courses, e.g., Fire Extinguisher, Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Bloodborne Pathogen, Defensive Driving, etc.
  • Conduct field safety surveys as required, such as hearing conservation, respiratory protection, and personal protective equipment, and complete all the necessary reports, documentation, and training records
  • Act as a member of the assigned departments’ Safety Teams/Committees
  • Coordinate with outside agencies and training contractors on fire safety and emergency issues
  • Work after-hour callouts for incidents involving severe injuries to employees, damage to County property, or possible County liability
  • Other job duties as assigned
