About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Risk Management, the Risk Management Analyst is an experienced professional in insurance and risk management. This role manages and improves operations for the university’s broad insurance and liability portfolio (property, auto, athletics, crime, cyber, fine arts, professional, and other lines as applicable.) and serves as a liaison with the NJ State Colleges and Universities insurance consortium. The Risk Manager also supports enterprise risk management initiatives by supporting the development of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework, contributing to risk assessments, and advising campus stakeholders on risk and insurance related matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, risk management, insurance, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in risk management, insurance, or claims administration.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing complex insurance programs and claims independently.
  • Experience managing a comprehensive range of insurance programs including property and liability.
  • Experience improving risk management processes and systems.
  • Exposure to enterprise risk management concepts.
  • Experience with Risk Management Information Systems.
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of management and able to handle diverse customer interactions with professionalism and respect.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional license, certification, or designation related to or demonstrating competency in risk management (RIMS-CRMP, ARM, CPCU, AINS, CRM, CSRM).
  • Knowledge of risk frameworks (e.g., COSO, ISO, NIST).
  • Experience in higher education or public sector organizations.
  • Familiarity with NJ Tort Claims Act and New Jersey insurance regulations.
  • Knowledge of and/or professional license, certification, or designation related to or demonstrating competency in project management or process improvement (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma).
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and/or Google Workspace (Forms, Drive).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the insurance and liability portfolio across property, auto, athletics, crime, cyber, fine arts, professional, and other lines as applicable.
  • Support the insurance policy renewal process by engaging with various departments to collect required information and submit accurate and timely applications.
  • Manage and resolve insurance claims, working with insurers, legal counsel, and campus stakeholders.
  • Act as liaison and maintain relationships with the consortium risk manager and third-party service providers (brokers, insurers, state insurance administrators, etc.).
  • Review contracts, policies, and university activities to ensure appropriate coverage and compliance.
  • Provide risk advisory services to departments and senior leadership.
  • Assist in insurance and liability portfolio budget planning and financial analysis.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements in risk management and insurance operations, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders to evaluate current procedures and introduce standardized practices for risk and insurance related processes.
  • Monitor industry best practices and emerging technologies to recommend enhancements to university risk management operations.
  • Support the Director of Risk Management in developing and implementing the university’s ERM framework.
  • Contribute to risk assessments, reporting, and communication of risk priorities.
  • Assist in training and support risk awareness initiatives across the university.
