The Behavioral Health Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing services across all Access: Supports for Living Behavioral Health programs in Orange County, Ulster County, and Dutchess County including Behavioral Health Urgent Care, Outpatient Clinic, PROS, and OASAS-certified programs. This role supports individuals across the lifespan with mental health and substance use treatment needs by delivering nursing assessment, triage, medication administration, care coordination, and health education in collaboration with an interdisciplinary treatment team. The RN serves as a clinical resource to staff, supports regulatory compliance, and ensures continuity of care from initial access through ongoing treatment. This role offers qualified professionals hands-on experience, training, and clinical supervision in a variety of evidence-based practices.

Requirements

  • NY State RN License and minimum 1 year experience
  • Experience working with diverse populations and crisis intervention
  • Commitment to customer service excellence and a warm and engaging presence
  • Computer skills and experience working with electronic medical records
  • Weekend rotation hours required.

Nice To Haves

  • Psychiatric and Substance use disorder experience is a plus
  • Experience working with people diagnosed with I/DD is a plus
  • Bilingual English and Spanish speaking is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and triages clients appropriately based on their acuity
  • Conducts assessments through interviews with clients and relatives to gather case history.
  • Provides general nursing care to the clients in accordance with the nursing standards.
  • Consults with psychiatric providers and other behavioral health staff in designing appropriate treatment options.
  • Obtains vital signs and collects specimen for substance use screening and medication compliance as ordered by psychiatric providers
  • Provides counseling and support around high risk behavior and communicable disease screening/treatment for clients receiving substance use disorder treatment
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with the nursing standards.
  • Assesses, observes, records and reports client’s condition and reaction to treatment to the team.
  • Educates client/family about procedures, medications, nutritional maintenance of health and wellness.
  • Acts as client advocate.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and clients.
  • Coordinate with the interdisciplinary team in planning the care of the client and discharge planning including follow-up and outreach after discharge.
  • Maintains examination/medication rooms for necessary supplies and equipment.
