Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited program is required; master’s degree in nursing or education is preferred
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical experience in hospice, home health, or a related healthcare setting, with demonstrated experience in staff education, training, or mentorship in a clinical environment.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance, quality improvement initiatives, and competency validation is preferred, along with familiarity with CMS Conditions of Participation (CoPs), ACHC standards, and evidence-based clinical practices.
  • Prior experience in developing and implementing educational programs for interdisciplinary teams, including nursing, OT, PT, social work, and therapy assistants, is highly desirable.
  • Comprehensive understanding of hospice practices, patient care standards, symptom management, palliative care principles, and evidence-based clinical protocols.
  • Familiarity with CMS Conditions of Participation (CoPs), ACHC standards, state and federal healthcare regulations, and accreditation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate innovative clinical education programs, competency assessments, and ongoing training for hospice and staff, ensuring compliance with CMS CoPs, ACHC standards, organizational policies and evidence-based practices.
  • Remain current and competent in all current and new clinical skills, duties, and processes as the subject matter expert in order to teach and evaluate competency.
  • Orient and mentor new clinical staff, including nurses, OT/PT, social workers, therapy assistants, Preceptors and Clinical Managers to organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides an appropriate environment for adult learning by developing, planning, and presenting educational activities through written materials, classrooms, remote settings, and innovated and advanced learning platforms.
  • Develops and maintains clinical procedure quick guides and use cases to promote technology and EMR solutions for easy reference.
  • Ensures that all staff's competency assessments, training records, and education documentation are accurately completed, maintained, and submitted to Human Resources in a timely manner to meet regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Develops, designs, and provides disease-specific skills-based competency evaluation tools.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to identify learning needs, address gaps in knowledge or skills, and support quality improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate staff competencies, performance, and adherence to clinical standards, providing feedback, coaching, and remediation as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of education, training, and competency validation to meet accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Support patient safety, infection control, and risk management programs by integrating current guidelines and best practices into staff education.
  • Participate in the development, review, and updating of clinical policies, procedures, and protocols in collaboration with leadership.
  • Assist in preparing internal and external audits, surveys, and inspections related to staff education, competency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all education, training, and competency programs comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as accrediting and licensing body standards. This includes adherence to Medicare and Medicaid Conditions of Participation, state practice acts, accreditation requirements, and organizational policies.
  • The Clinical Educator must stay current with regulatory changes and integrate updates into clinical education programs to promote compliance, quality care, and patient safety across the organization.
  • May be responsible for and holding the additional title of Hospice CNA Clinical Management which requires the supervision of the CNA Administrative Manager and oversight of the Hospice and Home Health CNAs.
