Actively participates in the overall safety program for Sanford by identifying potential risks within Health Services division facilities that impacts patient safety. Responsible for managing safety events related to patients, visitors, physicians and employees within the patient safety evaluation system. Leads, facilitates, and advises key stakeholders, department leadership, vice presidents and chiefs of medicine and nursing during analysis, deliberation and action planning of safe events and day to day patient safety concerns. Manages the day-to-day operation of patient safety programs and provides guidance to providers, clinical and leadership staff. Develops and maintains systems with the organization to detect, monitor, prevent, organize, measure, investigate, report, and manage patient safety events and other indicators of potential patient harm. Aims to increase patient safety and reduce errors in healthcare processes. Conducts cause analysis of harm events and those with potential to cause harm. Collaborates with peers in Quality, Infection Prevention and Control, Compliance, Accreditation, Legal and others to identify and facilitate improvement initiatives based upon findings of cause analyses. Compiles and analyzes patient safety data for dissemination to operations and leadership. Prepares summaries for tracking, trending and analysis of event data. This position requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills as well as a strong clinical background. Must have the ability to use independent critical thinking and analytical judgment in executing professional decisions. Problem solving skills are essential. Excellent interpersonal relationship skills are critical to facilitating groups and dealing with sensitive and confidential topics, and working towards conflict resolution in stressful situations. Must have comprehensive knowledge of regulatory, licensure and accreditation regulations related to patient safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare related field
  • Five years clinical experience required
  • Must currently hold an unencumbered registered nurse (RN) license with the State Board of Nursing
  • Excellent organizational skills
